Newcastle United have officially rejected Arsenal’s first formal bid for captain Bruno Guimarães, making clear they have no intention of selling their star midfielder unless a valuation far higher than the current proposal is met.
Arsenal’s opening offer was understood to be in the region of £70 million to £75 million, well below the figure Newcastle would accept. The Magpies have already banked nearly £175 million this summer from the sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, and are under no financial pressure to part ways with their leader. Their firm position is that Bruno is not for sale, but if they were to entertain a move, they would look for upwards of £80 million – benchmarking him against the fees already secured for other top players.
The 28‑year‑old Brazil international has already told Newcastle chiefs he would like to make the move to the Emirates, and has travelled to join the club’s pre‑season camp in La Manga, Spain, as planned. Arsenal are now reviewing their options internally and weighing up whether to return with a significantly improved bid, while keeping talks alive with Newcastle’s hierarchy.
For now, Newcastle remain resolute: their captain stays unless a truly exceptional offer arrives that matches their valuation.
