Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion on a two‑year contract running until 2028. The move marks a clear shift in the Blues’ recruitment approach, balancing young talent with proven leadership and Premier League quality as referenced by co‑owner Behdad Eghbali earlier this year.
Welbeck enjoyed the most prolific league campaign of his career last term, scoring a personal‑best 13 Premier League goals in 37 appearances for Brighton. In total he netted 51 goals in 201 matches after joining the Seagulls from Watford in October 2020, becoming a key figure both on the pitch and in the dressing room. He had triggered a 12‑month contract extension in March keeping him tied to the Amex until 2027, before the two clubs reached an agreement for his exit.
