Arsenal have finally reached a full agreement with Newcastle United to sign captain Bruno Guimarães in a deal worth £75 million, bringing an end to one of the summer’s longest-running transfer sagas.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move with his trademark “Here We Go” on Wednesday morning, reporting that all terms are now in place after both clubs found a compromise fee. David Ornstein of The Athletic also confirmed Newcastle have sanctioned the sale after weeks of holding out for higher figures.
The 28-year-old Brazil international has been pushing for the move since early July, having informed Newcastle chiefs he wanted to join the Premier League champions. Personal terms on a long-term contract were agreed weeks ago — all that remained was the fee, which started far lower before Arsenal met the compromise figure of £75,000,000.
Guimarães remains with Newcastle’s squad at their pre-season camp in La Manga, Spain, awaiting permission to travel to London for his medical and final signing. Lyon, his former club, are due 20% of the profit from the sale — earning them roughly £7.5 million.
