Jordan Henderson leaves Al Ettifaq winter training camp to complete Ajax transfer just six months after Liverpool exit

Liverpool hero Jordan Henderson is set to quit Al-Etiffaq and return to Europe to sign for Ajax. And the 33-year-old may have helped his former employers by convincing blockbuster star Mohamed Salah that a move to Saudi Arabia just isn’t worth it, despite all the riches it brings.

Henderson spent 12 years at Liverpool after joining the club from Sunderland in 2011. The midfielder went on to make 492 appearances for the Anfield giants and won a whole host of competitions, including the Champions League, Premier League and Club World Cup. But he called time on his Reds career after being offered a huge contract in the Middle East.

Henderson has featured 17 times for Al-Etiffaq, who are managed by former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard. But the player has failed to find his top form, with his side winning just six of their 19 Saudi Pro League matches this term.

Henderson had championed LGBTQ+ rights during his time at Anfield and was heavily criticised for moving to a country where homosexuality is illegal and carries a maximum punishment of the death penalty. And it appears his salary, which is said to be in the region of £350,000 per week, isn’t enough to convince him to stay where he is as a move to Ajax will reportedly go through before the weekend.
