Chelsea have reached a full £52 million agreement with Crystal Palace to sign France defender Maxence Lacroix, bolstering their backline ahead of the new season.

The 26-year-old centre-back impressed for his country at the 2026 World Cup, making three appearances as France made their run in the tournament. He will now put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, following positive talks between the two clubs.

Lacroix emerged as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders during his time at Selhurst Park – known for his sharp reading of the game, strong physical presence and ability to step out with the ball from the back. He gives Chelsea vital extra depth and quality in defence, as they look to mount a serious challenge at the top of the table.
