Ex-Chelsea forward Timo Werner is on the cusp of joining Tottenham on loan this month, despite interest from Manchester United. The German attacker has struggled since returning to RB Leipzig, with talks ongoing to try and lure him back to the Premier League.
United are keen to bolster their forward ranks over the coming weeks, with a striker to compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the No. 9 spot viewed as a priority. With a limited budget available, Erik ten Hag has been scouring the market for cut-price reinforcements.
Leipzig’s Werner has been among the considerations at Old Trafford, with his struggles since returning to the Bundesliga catching the eye of top clubs around Europe. However, the Red Devils may no longer have the opportunity to secure the services of the 27-year-old.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Tottenham are closing in on a six-month loan deal for Werner and negotiations are expected to be wrapped up by today. The versatile forward is said to be willing to leave Leipzig’s training camp to put pen to paper in north London, and Spurs are hopeful of striking a deal imminently.
