Man Utd revive interest in £20m Stuttgart star Sasa Kalajdzic to give Erik ten Hag completely different attacking option
Manchester United have reportedly revived their interest in signing highly-rated Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic this summer.
The Red Devils were strongly tipped to make a move for the Austria attacker earlier in the window before turning their interest to Red Bull Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko.
But after RB Leipzig won the race for Sesko, who will officially head to Germany next summer, The Times claims that United have now stepped up their interest in Kalajdzic again.
The report states that Erik ten Hag wants to add more physicality to his frontline. That need is even more apparent after Edinson Cavani’s summer exit.
Doubts also continue to surround Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term future at the club. But if he does move on, that leaves Anthony Martial as the only natural No.9 at Old Trafford.
And, with an ill-fated move for former West Ham star Marko Arnautovic quickly put to bed, the Red Devils are now eyeing Kalajdzic again.
The 25-year-old, who stands at an imposing 6ft 7in, is currently valued at £20million.
He had an impressive debut season in Germany, scoring 16 goals and adding six assists in 33 games.
However, last term did not go as well, with Kalajdzic suffering a dislocated shoulder early in the campaign. He still managed eight goal contributions in 15 matches though as Stuttgart avoided relegation.
Kalajdzic is, however, expected to leave this summer, given that he only has 11 months left on his contract.
Kalajdzic would give Man Utd complete different option
And that news has alerted a number of top clubs, including United, where Kalajdzic would give Ten Hag a completely different option to
turn to.
The giant forward is comfortable with both feet but his aerial power is his obvious strength.
Indeed, Kalajdzic has scored 50 per cent of his goals from headers. He also won four aerial duels per game last season.
While he is unlikely to be a regular starter at Old Trafford, the young forward could be a real game-changer.
Much now depends over what happens with Ronaldo in the final weeks of the window.
However, it appears that United are lining up targets in case the Portuguese legend wins in his battle to move on.
